USLA 2.0
FNC, in partnership with Northlight Community Center and Triskeles, is offering a unique afterschool and summer enrichment program called the Urban Sustainability Leadership Academy (USLA 2.0) which started in the Fall of 2015.
USLA 2.0 is a program sponsored through Philadelphia Youth Network; its goal is to provide students with long term support in academics and in career and college preparation. It will run for 2 academic calendar years.
We recruited fifty-nine 11th graders, who will remain in the program until the completion of high school. Youth meet twice a week after school at three different partner locations. Program activities include tutoring, mentoring, financial literacy workshops, community engagement events and other services.
USLA is designed to provide youth the tools and structure to overcome any barriers, and to support youth so that they may excel in their academic, professional, and personal lives. There are a lot of exciting components included in the year long program, such as cooking classes, urban gardening, paid internships, and more.
